Gun Props and UK law

hello forum. I need help please.

Ok this issue has been playing on me for a while now.
I currently have permission to film an action film on a Thames water industrial complex (a friend works for them)my issue is the following

Painting 2-tone guns black ( reason= ALOT cheaper than RIF's and easy to acquire)

now my understanding is that YES it is illegal to paint 2-tone guns all black, but after reading the The Violent Crime Reduction Act, I'm somewhat confused.

now section (30, 1, B) states

36 -Manufacture, import and sale of realistic imitation firearms

(1)A person is guilty of an offence if—

(a)he manufactures a realistic imitation firearm;

(b) he modifies a firearm or an imitation firearm so that it becomes a realistic imitation firearm;

note (b)

Ok, so in section 37 it states your defense's against offenses from section 36
so section (37, c)

37- Specific defences applying to the offence under s. 36

(c) the production of films

note (c)

so my defence of creating a RIF from an IF is within the law? if for use with film production, which is my intentions.

any help here would be great thanks.

With each new technological advance the boundaries between film, TV, games and other digital production become increasingly blurred.

'Digital' covers the areas of corporate production, web and mobile interactive content, photo imaging, visual and sound effects. It is difficult to imagine how modern feature film, TV and computer games production could exist without significant content provision from the Digital sector notwithstanding the transferability of the skill-sets.
