The production department aims to encourage new, emerging and existing talent through a range of funding streams and the Digital Shorts Scheme. We also aim to seek out the most creative and innovative new writing and directing talent in the East of England.

We support script development at all stages, we also have feature film production and completion funding.

We work closely with the UK Film Council and industry partners to make high quality distinctive films that have the potential to reach an international audience.




Edinburgh success!
Following a Palme d’Or nomination at the Cannes Film Festival, After Tomorrow wins UK Film Council Award for Best British Short Film at the Edinburgh International Film Festival. This is the second Edinburgh win for Screen East, following Billy’s Day Out in 2004.

Digital Shorts
Through Digital Shorts we have invested in over 40 short films, enabling the most exciting short filmmaking talent to make creative digital films in a commercial environment with professional guidance. See Digital Shorts page for more information on the scheme and films.

New Town Killers
Content Investment Fund
Screen East recently completed delivery of a £2.2 million European Regional Development Fund. Over two years we have invested in 11 feature films, 1 IPTV production as well as script development. Through our Xcellerate scheme we have invested in training, business development and entrepreneurial skills.
If you would like to apply for funding, please read the guidelines carefully and speak to the production department about your project.
