Facebook Ad Engagement Takes a Dive

Tue, 17 Apr 2012

After reading eConsultancy's report on Facebook's ad engagement going down but the prices going up.

I think Facebook has become a victim of its own success. The non Google paid advert is slowly dying to give way to pure P2P marketing, that’s fine we kind of expected that, what has killed it are the constant changes to Facebook’s UI making it difficult to see the adverts.

There seems to be this desire by large eBusinesses e.g. Google and Facebook making paid advertising less visible (e.g. Google threatening to move sponsored listings) They always have something up their sleeve though, Google simply put more emphasis on their Display Network, it will be interesting to see what Facebook does to combat dwindling revenues.

We can take comfort in the fact that they are not stupid and generally are huge commercial machines, they will always have something up their sleeves.
